Mitya Without Yae: How Account Investment Changes Character Value
Yae Miko is a personal damage dealer, not a buffer. The more you invest in your other units, the less valuable she becomes. Here is what that means for Mitya, Skirk, and the Stellar meta.

Key Takeaways
- Yae Miko is a personal damage dealer, not a buffer. Her value drops as your account investment in other units rises. This is not a bug; it is how her kit scales.
- Mitya works without Yae. His personal damage in a hyper team runs roughly 40% higher than in carry teams, and that gap closes fast with investment.
- Sandrone and Yae compete for the same slot. More investment into Sandrone makes Yae worse, not better. The two are substitutes, not complements.
- Mistsplitter's Sig is not a must. C0 Mitya clears Fearless content comfortably. Save the Sig for a later constellation push.
- Instructor sets are account-wide assets. A 3-line attack main stat piece with flat attack is as good as it gets for Nicole and Valeriy. Lock it even if you do not level it today.
- Skirk's Vodyanitsa gap shrinks with skill. The better you are at Skirk combos, the less of an upgrade Vodyanitsa becomes. Hardware and execution matter more than the last slot.
There is a class of Genshin characters whose value moves in the opposite direction of your account. The stronger your other units get, the weaker they look. Yae Miko is the textbook case, and Mitya is the newest test of the rule.
This post breaks down why that happens, what it means for team building, and how to read the same pattern in Skirk, Varka, and the Stellar meta without over-investing in a character who peaks at C0.
Why Yae Miko Loses Value as You Invest
Yae Miko is a personal damage dealer, not a buffer. She does not raise the team's damage ceiling by amplifying allies. She raises it by adding her own. That distinction decides everything.
When your account is new, Yae is a large fraction of your team's total damage. Her totems fire, her Burst hits, and the team leans on her numbers. As you invest in your driver, your supports, and your artifacts, the rest of the team catches up and then passes her. Yae's absolute damage does not drop. Her share of the team's damage does.
That is the whole mechanism. The more investment you have in your other units, the less valuable Yae becomes. It is not a nerf, and it is not a bug. It is arithmetic.
The same logic applies to Mitya. His personal damage in a hyper team runs about 40% higher than in a carry team. That gap closes fast with investment, and it does not take much investment for his hyper-team damage to equal or pass his carry-team damage. If you are focused on primos and want the strongest team possible, Yae is worse than vertical. Yae will still be part of his best team, but her slot is the first one to question when resources are tight.
Sandrone and Yae: Substitutes, Not Complements
The pattern repeats with Sandrone. The more investment you have into Sandrone, the worse Yae becomes. Sandrone and Yae are substitutes for the same slot, not complements that stack.
On a Diaru account, the only reason the best Sandrone team uses Yae is a cooldown problem: Aliosha's 18-second cooldown does not allow capitalizing on Odette C2 and running 15-second rotations that nuke more often. The damage is better with Aliosha. The cooldown is the problem. So the DPS ends up a little better on Yae, but very similar.
That is a useful diagnostic. When two characters compete for the same slot and the gap between them is small, investment in either one shifts the balance. If you are already invested in Sandrone, Yae is a marginal upgrade. If you are not, Yae is a real one.
Mistsplitter's Sig Is Not a Must
A common question is whether Mitya needs his signature weapon. The answer is no. Sigs are never a must unless you care about clearing Dire. Fearless content is more than doable at C0 with everything else at baseline.
If you do care about Dire and you are considering vertical, Mistsplitter's Constellation should be better than his Sig unless you are planning to go for Constellation Sig. Do not look at the Sig direction too much, especially if you already have Kagura's Verity. Kagura's is not that good on paper because it gives attack, but it is not useless because it also has Stellar damage. Its base attack is mid, not low, so it kind of gives attack anyway.
The practical read: spend your weapon pulls on a constellation push only if you are already committed to the character. Otherwise, a 4-star or a free option carries you through most content.
Instructor Sets Are Account-Wide Assets
Instructor sets are the kind of thing that looks useless until it is not. There are many teams where Instructor Nicole is actually best in slot. Most players cannot do it because they do not have an attack main stat Instructor piece. A three-line attack main stat with flat attack is as good as it gets for Nicole.
The same applies to Valeriy. His animations are kind of long, so Instructor Valeriy may not end up being real, but having the piece locked is better than not having it. Generally, Stellar teams prefer Instructor, but it depends on the team and on who is getting the Instructor uptime.
The math is rough. A maxed attack percent main stat is 34.8% instead of 46.6%, so you lose about 11.8% per main stat times three. You also lose attack percent rolls on your flower, roughly 10 to 15%. You lose about 50% attack on Nicole. In exchange you get 120 EM from Instructor for whatever uptime it has. In some teams you front-load enough damage that it is worth it. You have a 5-star feather piece instead of a 5-star attack percent piece, and you lose less of a stat going on a 4-star set when it is a stat you get from subs rather than from main stats.
The point is not that you should build Nicole on Instructor. The point is that having an Instructor set built for Nicole is useful if you have her. Lock the piece. You do not have to level it if you are not using it in the short term, but if you ever want to use it, having it is better than not.
Skirk, Vodyanitsa, and the Skill Gap
Skirk DPS with Vodyanitsa is tier zero under KQM standard with perfect combos. With perfect combos, maybe. Skirk specifically has more range than other characters. Unlike Mavuika, where you are either doing the combo right or you are not, two people who are good at Skirk combos can still have a difference in performance because one of them is better.
There is also hardware diff with Skirk that does not really apply to almost anyone else. Skirk with perfect execution is around 250k team DPS, though even the strongest Skirk players do not reach that at KQM standard.
The better you are at Skirk, the lower the gap between Vodyanitsa and the other options for the last slot, because a lot of Vodyanitsa's value is effectively personal damage. Her buffs in terms of stat numbers are worse than other characters. If you are doing two extra N5s worth of damage, the portion of damage that Vodyanitsa is contributing to is not increasing, while the portion that more buff-focused characters contribute to is increasing. So the better you are at Skirk, the less of an upgrade Vodyanitsa is.
Escoffier is about as strong as Nicole in Rizzly teams and clearly best in slot for Skirk. The argument that allows Nicole to maintain tier zero, that she is one of the best in slot options for Rizzly and clearly best in slot for Varka, applies to Escoffier too. Escoffier is stronger than Varka within that tier.
Mavuika, Varka, and Mecha
Mecha sits pretty comfortably at tier zero. He is stronger than the strongest tier 0.5, but aside from Mavuika, he is weaker than the weakest tier zero. It would be reasonable to put him at either 0.5 or tier zero. As a support, he is very clearly tier zero.
Varka is in tier 0.5, and Nicole is clearly best in slot for him. That is the same argument that keeps Nicole at tier zero. Mavuika is the exception that breaks the pattern: in a lot of Mavuika's teams, there is not much difference between the DPS a great player and an amazing player can output.
Zibai and Linnea in the Stellar Meta
Zibai and Linnea are a thing you can do. It is not the only thing you can do. If you have two teams and you want a third, it is viable to go for them. But the meta is going to be pretty Stellar focused, so if you already have the start of a Stellar team, one option is to commit to Odette on a Stellar swirl team and get Mitya for a Stellar conduct team. You effectively pull one premium team and split it in two, which lets you save primos to pull for your last team later, when you have more information.
If you give Odette to Mizuki, you can do the normal Mizuki premium team on one side and a Sandrone AI Mitya team on the other. The Sandrone AI Mitya team is a little worse than the current Sandrone AI Odette teams, but it is still clearing. It is the best archetype in the game.
Mizuki C2 vs Mona C4
How big of a deal is not having Mizuki's C2? Against most enemies it does not matter that much, but it is shred, so its value is higher against enemies with higher resistances and lower against enemies with lower resistances. If Mizuki is one of your main damage dealing teams, you will sometimes play that team in content that does not chill it, and then the value of the shred is much higher. If you have a more horizontal account with more options, you can just play her when the content is good for her instead of trying to brute force high res enemies.
Use ER QuickCalc to check whether your Mizuki team is energy-positive before you commit pulls to either constellation. The shred value is real, but only if your team can burst on cooldown first.
