Key Takeaways
- Faruzan needs 318% ER in the worst realistic case, not "some substats." Boss chamber, zero enemy drops, no Favonius, off-field: that's the number. Elite enemies: 202%. Multiwave: 148%. The room you walk into decides more than any substat roll does.
- The first rotation is the only one that matters. Later rotations are easier. The binding constraint is going from a cold start to a burst by your second rotation, and that single number drives her entire build.
- Her kit text hides the energy problem. Press E gives zero particles. The particles come from her charged attack vortex, which means field time. Her buffs live on her 80-energy burst. If a character can't burst and her buffs are on the burst, she's not doing anything.
- Favonius does what substats can't. A Fav bow drops her from 202% to 190% on elite content and costs zero ER substats. Against a boss it turns an impossible 318% into a hard but buildable 289%.
- C6 fixes her. Six off-field particles per burst rotation drop her to 222% against a boss and 159% on elite content, and battery your Anemo carry at the same time.
Faruzan needs 318% Energy Recharge to burst on rotation 2 when the chamber gives her nothing. Not 200%. Not "just get a good ER sands." Three hundred and eighteen percent.
Run her through the calculator with the boss preset and no Favonius anywhere in the team and you get 318%. Switch to elite enemies and it settles at 202%. Multiwave drops it to 148%. The number most builds assume is 200%, which is close enough on elite floors and 118 points short on a boss floor.
And here's the part that makes people rebuild her from scratch: she doesn't ascend with ER, and the set bonuses she wants to run don't give ER either. So where does all of it come from? Substats. Perfect ones.
This isn't a "Faruzan is broken" post. She's fine at C6 and she's the best support for pretty much every Anemo carry. The problem is that her energy generation lives in a part of her kit that the kit text doesn't mention, and the number people assume (200%, 220%) will leave her burst dark on the rotation where it matters most.
Why the First Rotation Is the Only One That Matters
Stygian has a cold start. You enter the chamber with no burst, no particles, no Favonius procs yet. Your first rotation is setup. Your second rotation is where the damage window opens, and if Faruzan's burst isn't up by then, your carry is playing without her shred and her Anemo buffs for the entire window.
Every rotation after that is easier. You've caught particles, you've had Fav procs, enemies have dropped energy. So the ER requirement isn't "average energy over a full fight." It's this: can she go from zero to burst between rotation 1 and rotation 2?
That one question sets the number. And with a cold start, the math is brutal.
Where the Numbers Come From
Our calculator models a standard 20-second rotation with Faruzan off-field behind an Anemo carry: Xiao on field with Faruzan, Bennett, and Zhongli. Nobody in the team holds a Favonius weapon unless the row says so. These are the enemy presets the calculator ships with:
| Chamber (enemy preset) | Required ER |
|---|---|
| Boss (0 drops), no Favonius | 318% |
| Boss (0 drops), Favonius Warbow | 289% |
| Boss (0 drops), C6 | 222% |
| Elite (12 drops), no Favonius | 202% |
| Elite (12 drops), Favonius Warbow | 190% |
| Elite (12 drops), C6 | 159% |
| Elite (12 drops), C6 + Favonius | 151% |
| Multiwave (24 drops), no Favonius | 148% |
Read the table top to bottom and the story is the chamber, not the build. Same Faruzan, same artifacts, 318% or 148% depending on what's standing in front of her. Teams that give her less push the top of that range higher, so treat these as the floor for each preset, not the ceiling.
Now put the 318% case through an artifact check. An ER sands gives her 51.8%, leaving 166.2% across four pieces, about 41.6% per piece. The maximum ER roll is 6.48, and the most copies of one stat a single artifact can hold is six, so the ceiling on one piece is 38.88%. She needs 41.6% from a stat that structurally cannot produce it.
That's not a build. That's arithmetic: the requirement outruns the maximum possible output of her artifact slots.
Her Kit Text Lies About Her Energy
The visible part of Faruzan's kit looks fine. Press E, get particles, use burst, buff team. Except:
- Press Elemental Skill: zero particles. Her Pressurized Collapse vortex generates the energy, and the vortex comes from her aimed charged attack. That's field time.
- Two particles per vortex, 5.5-second shared cooldown. Her real per-rotation output without standing around aiming is small, and the engine models her standard sequence: E, one charged shot, Q.
- Her buffs are on her burst. Shred, damage bonus, all of it gated behind an 80-energy burst she can't reliably fill.
If a character can't burst and her buffs are on the burst, then they're not doing anything. That's the entire problem in one sentence.
This is also why energy refunds don't rescue her here. Her burst doesn't refund energy on its own, and even if it did, you don't need energy for rotation 3. You need energy for rotation 2, and a refund you collect after the burst you're trying to fill does nothing for that window.
Three Ways Out
1. Favonius (the real answer)
Favonius weapons are broken. On elite content a Fav bow drops her requirement from 202% to 190%, and the equipment closes the gap on its own: base 100% plus the 51.8% from her ER sands plus the 61.3% ER substat on a Favonius Warbow is 213.1%. She needs zero ER substats. Her artifacts go from "farm this stat on every piece" to artifacts you already own.
Against a boss it turns an impossible 318% into 289%. That's still 75.9% across four pieces after sands and weapon, about 19% per artifact, roughly three maximum rolls on every piece. Hard, but inside the possible range, which is more than the no-weapon case can say.
The reason is structural: Favonius doesn't just add a stat. It generates real particles on a cooldown that sits inside your rotation, on top of a stat you were going to build anyway. No ER passive does that.
2. C6 (the permanent fix)
At C6, Pressurized Collapse keeps firing during her burst and generates six off-field particles per rotation without her ever aiming a charged shot again. Six Anemo particles is 18 energy, delivered while she's off field, every rotation, and whoever catches them on field gets the full value.
That drops her to 222% against a boss and 159% on elite content. Against her 100% base plus the 51.8% from an ER sands, the elite number leaves under 2% per artifact: one decent roll on each piece. It also batteries your carry. In Xiao teams, six extra Anemo particles that Xiao gets to catch is a lot of energy for him. She stops being an ER black hole and becomes a generator.
Fair warning: this makes her a C6 merchant. Without it, her buffs arrive a rotation late on the content that matters.
3. Accept it and play around it
You can run her at 202% for elite content with an ER sands and a couple of ER substats, no Favonius, and just accept that her burst is late on boss floors where the cold start sets a 318% bar. People clear with worse. It's a choice, not a recommendation.
Who Catches the Particles Matters
Energy in Genshin isn't just generation, it's ownership. Faruzan's requirement in a given team depends on who's on field when particles land:
- Catch them yourself: Faruzan stays on field after the charge shot. Costs about a second of field time every rotation.
- Your carry catches them: Xiao gets the Anemo particles at full value, and Faruzan's own requirement goes up. Run the calculator and you see both numbers at once.
- Off field is worth less: anything she collects from off field counts at 60% value, which is why "she can just catch her own particles" costs her either field time or requirement.
- Weapon particles without Fav: zero. This is why swapping to Fav changes the math more than any substat roll.
Run the numbers for your actual team, not a generic template. Rotation length, who's on field, whether you have Favonius, whether enemies drop clear particles during your damage window. All of it moves the target.
When Faruzan C6 Matters Least
She's not universal. C6 pays off exactly where Faruzan's own particles are the missing piece of the team's energy, and that isn't every team. Behind Xiao it's the whole point: every Anemo particle she makes lands on a carry who wants them. Behind Wanderer with Durin and Nicole, run your exact four through the calculator with her at C0 and at C6, compare the two numbers, and decide from there. If her requirement barely moves, the constellation isn't where your account needs the upgrade.
The pattern: the more self-sufficient your team's energy, the less her particle generation matters. The more your carry wants Anemo particles, the more C6 Faruzan is doing two jobs at once.
The Bottom Line
Faruzan's ER requirement isn't a substat tuning question. It's a structural one. Worst-case cold start against a boss means 318% if you're playing her as printed, and no artifact set in the game can produce that number.
You have three real options: put Favonius on her and drop the substat requirement to nothing on elite content, get C6 and turn her into a battery, or accept that her burst will be late on rotation 2 and play around it.
The default answer is Favonius. It always was.

FAQ
How much ER does Faruzan need?
318% against a boss with zero drops and no Favonius, 202% on elite content, 148% in multiwave. With a Favonius Warbow it's 190% on elite and 289% against a boss. At C6: 159% on elite, 222% against a boss. Her real requirement depends on team, rotation length, and who catches her particles, so run your own case through the calculator.
Does Faruzan ascend with Energy Recharge?
No. That's what makes her requirement so painful. She gets no ER from levels, and the set bonuses she wants don't provide it either. All of it has to come from substats, weapon, or an ER sands.
Is Breezeborne Refrain good on Faruzan?
It's a crit rate bow that adds 20% Energy Recharge from its passive at refinement 1, so it helps. On elite content those 20 points cover part of the gap her sands leaves, which still leaves about 8% per artifact. Favonius Warbow brings its own 61.3% ER substat, drops her requirement to 190% through particle procs, and leaves zero. For her personal damage Breezeborne Refrain is fine. For the energy problem, Favonius wins every time.
Is Faruzan C6 worth it?
For Anemo carries, yes. C6 gives six off-field particles per burst rotation, which drops her to 222% against a boss and 159% on elite content, and batteries your carry (especially Xiao). Without C6 she's functional but energy-starved, and with C6 she's the best support for basically every Anemo carry.
Does Faruzan need ER in non-Stygian content?
The cold start is what sets the top of the range. In Abyss floors where you carry energy between chambers, you can enter fights with her burst already up, and the rotation 2 problem disappears. Then you build for your hardest content, not your easiest: boss floor, cold start, zero drops.
