Introduction: The C0 Energy Trap
With the release of Columbina, many players are discovering her energy economy is much stricter than the 60-cost Burst suggests. Her Skill generates only 1–2 particles per cast on a 17-second cooldown — among the weakest self-generation in the game — so her actual ER requirement lands closer to an 80-cost character than a 60-cost one. A common misconception circulating after her release is that she refunds energy by default. This is incorrect. The flat Energy Refund mechanic is locked behind her First Constellation (C1).
This guide separates what ER QuickCalc's engine data confirms (cost, cooldowns, particle output) from the team-dependent breakpoints you should verify against your own rotation.
The C1 Bait: "Radiance Over Blossoms and Peaks"
At C0, Columbina relies entirely on standard particle generation from her Skill and her teammates. Her C1 adds the energy mechanic her kit feels like it should have at C0: when the Lunar-Charged reaction accumulates maximum Gravity, the active character recovers 6 Energy. Over a rotation with two maxed reactions, that is ~12 flat Energy — flat energy ignores the ER multiplier, which is exactly why it feels so strong.
Without C1, no reaction refunds energy. Every point of ER in her build has to be bought with artifacts, weapons, or teammates.
True ER Requirements (C0)
| Team Setup | ER Target | Required Investment |
|---|---|---|
| Solo (no battery, no energy weapon) | 210–230% | ER Sands + Favonius or Prototype Amber |
| Double Hydro (with Furina / Yelan) | 180–200% | Hydro Resonance + shared Hydro particles |
| With Raiden Shogun | 140–150% | Raiden's 15–27 flat Energy refund covers the hole |
Why so high for a 60-cost kit? Work the ratio. Her Burst costs 60 Energy, but one Skill cast per rotation (~1.5 particles, usually caught off-field at 1.8 Energy each) contributes only ~2.7 Energy. Even with a second skill proc, she self-generates under 6 Energy per rotation. The remaining 54+ Energy must come from teammates — which is why her breakpoints track her team's generation, not her own cost.
Weapon Options: Fixing the C0 Energy Hole
| Weapon | ER Impact | Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| Signature weapon (Nocturne's Curtain Call) | ~12–16 Energy refund per reaction cycle | Mimics C1 comfort; effectively fixes C0 rotations |
| Prototype Amber (R5) | 18 flat Energy per Burst | The C0 savior: mathematically outperforms damage weapons at C0 |
| Favonius Codex | 30.6% ER substat + team-wide neutral particles | Sacrifices personal damage for team consistency; good as reaction enabler |
Artifact Strategy at C0
- Sands: ER% Sands is the default at C0 — the 51.8% substat is the single cheapest path toward the 200% tier.
- Set: Emblem of Severed Fate if her Burst is a meaningful damage share (it converts ER to Burst DMG, so the ER you are forced to build is not wasted). If her damage is reaction-based, HP%/ER 2pc combinations can beat it.
- Substats: ER until breakpoint → CRIT / HP. Every ER roll above 230% is a damage roll you gave up.
- The C0→C1 decision: if you own her signature weapon, C0 is comfortable enough to skip C1. If you run her weaponless, C1's refund is worth roughly an ER Sands and an ER substat line — evaluate the cost against a damage constellation on a teammate.
C0 vs C1: The Full Cost Comparison
| Factor | C0 | C1 |
|---|---|---|
| Reaction energy refund | None | 6 Energy per maxed Lunar-Charged reaction (~12/rotation) |
| Effective ER need (double Hydro) | 180–200% | 150–170% |
| ER Sands required? | Usually yes | Only with a damage weapon |
| Signature weapon synergy | Strong (weapon refund fills the C1 gap) | Redundant but comfortable |
The practical rule: C0 + signature weapon ≈ C1 + Favonius in energy terms. Choose based on whether you would rather spend primogems on the weapon banner or the character banner.
Sample Rotation and Catch Plan
- Skill → Burst on Columbina, then immediately swap off (her field presence is short)
- Battery skills (Furina/Yelan E, or Raiden E) — drop Hydro/Electro particles
- Swap Columbina on-field to catch the battery's particles — at 3.0 Energy each this is worth ~40% more than an off-field catch
- Repeat after her 17-second skill cooldown; if the rotation is 20s, one extra cast per 2 rotations — plan ER for the longer cycle
Because her own skill procs so rarely, Columbina's energy comes almost entirely from who is on-field during the battery's drops. That single swap is worth more ER than any artifact line.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Columbina refund energy at C0?
No. The 6-Energy refund on maxed Lunar-Charged reactions is her C1 effect. At C0 she generates energy only through standard particles.
Is 200% ER on a 60-cost character a waste?
Not for Columbina — her particle generation is so low that her effective requirement mimics an 80-cost character. Emblem converts that ER into Burst damage, so it is not dead weight.
Prototype Amber or Favonius at C0?
For personal energy: Prototype Amber (R5) gives 18 flat Energy per Burst and is independent of crits. For team support: Favonius. If your team has no other battery, Amber is usually the more reliable choice.
